what is GOOGLE PENGUIN

Google introduced the Penguin updates on April 24 2012. A Penguin is an algorithm that targets spam content or webspam in an effort to lower the rankings of websites that use black hat SEO techniques to boost their own rankings at the search engines. Black hat SEO techniques such as keyword stuffing (over-optimization) or buying of back-links are unethical and they would certainly subject a site to Penguin penalties.

Tips for Protecting Your Site from Penguin Penalties :

Avoid onsite keyword stuffing – While the use of keywords is important to increase your visibility at the search engines, overusing these keywords predisposes you to Penguin penalties. Instead of building content for the search engines, create content that humans can read naturally. It is advisable to keep your keyword density lower than 2-3%.

Avoid blatant abuse of backlinks – Google will penalize you if you try to trick the search engines by building backlinks to your website from one of your other sites.

Check your link anchor text – Another over optimization culprit is the anchor text. Ensure that the anchor text links to relevant content – avoid hidden text techniques that mislead the readers and the search engine. Your site will be exposed to penguin penalties if there are too many links pointing towards a single anchor text.

Avoid too much onsite linking – While it is acceptable and valuable to link the pages in your site to each other, you might be subject to penalties if you overdo the internal linking. Be sure that none of the content on any page attracts too many onsite links.

Use appropriate heading systems for headings – Search engines are privy to H1 tags. Instead of stuffing your articles with more than one h1 tags, use h2 and h3 headings.

Avoid overuse of redirects – It might be tempting to use redirects to increase the revenues from ads or affiliate programs. Using redirects for the wrong reasons only makes your site vulnerable to Penguin penalties.

Avoid content duplication – Instead of stealing or copying content from other websites, create your own valuable and relevant content. However, be sure to generate new content frequently instead of reusing your existing content too much.
